Coach T Tackles
Football is more than a thorough guide to good football coaching
techniques. Hosted by the charismatic Coach T, the DVD series (also available
on VHS) explores numerous drills, strategies, up-to-date techniques and
approaches, safety tips, sports medicine and provides in-depth positional
analysis. The material is all presented in an easy-to-reference, engaging
format.
Overview: (1 hour, 15 minutes) Provides insights, philosophies and advice to
the new coach while exploring new techniques and considerations for the
seasoned vet. The medical chapter provides an overview of the do’s
and don’ts when dealing with youth injuries. When to heat and when
to ice, the ABCs of injuries, the RICE method of instant care are just
some of the topics discussed in this chapter. Finally, Coach T works with
players on proper stretching for football.
Fundamentals: (1 hour, 5 minutes) Blocking, tackling, and running
are highlighted in these coaching sessions. Coach T talks about the necessity
to maintain a good leveraged and introduces “Zs in the knees".
Highlights include the “4 Cone Drill” and the “Plank
Drill”.
Running Backs: (50 minutes) Coach T emphasizes ball handling as he implements
numerous drills emphasizing proper ball maintenance in various change-of-direction
situations. In addition to providing tips to minimize turnovers, Coach
T explores the running backs’ role in the passing game as well as
lead blocking in the running attack.
Quarterbacks: (1 hour) Along with Southwest State standout
Steve Yakesh, Coach T breaks down the basics from the snap to the pivot
to the drop back. If you never heard of the “Goal Post Position”,
this segment is a must. Coach T analyzes the 3 and 5 step drop, the rollout
and throwing motion, step-by-step.
Wide Receivers: (45 minutes) Former pro Willis Jacox provides unique
insight into the receiver position. In addition to demonstrating the correct
way to catch and run a variety of routes, Jacox teaches “stemming”
and how a wide receiver “attacks the technique.”
Offensive Line: (1hour 50 minutes) The longest and most extensive
segment in the series. In this chapter, Coach T breaks down each movement
an offensive lineman needs to take in run and pass blocking. His “Bird
Dog and Pulls” session is guaranteed to improve your sweeps and
reverses. Blocks highlighted in this chapter include Drive, Hook, Scoop,
Fold, and Combination. Coaching pass blocking at the youth level is also
emphasized.
Linebackers: (1hour) It’s never too early to teach linebackers
how to scrape, pursue and read their keys. Coach T simplifies things so
that it’s easy to teach youth player’s linebacker skills.
Besides providing good tackling drills, Coach T emphasizes reading, reacting
and attacking. What does it take to be a good linebacker at the youth
level? Coach T knows… Do you?
Defensive Line: (1 hour 10 minutes) How many moves should a D-lineman know at
the youth level? What do you do if a move fails? Watch as Coach T teaches
the best moves for youth players and then leads his players through 2-on-1
and 1-on-1 challenge drills. Splitting a double team caps-off this in-depth
segment.
Defensive Backs: (48 minutes) Coach T hates toast… especially in
his defensive backfield. Coach T enlists former Boise State All-America
DB, Ricky Hill, to teach strategies to prevent “the burn.”
Hill provides drills and instruction on proper footwork and body positioning
against both the run and pass.
Special Teams and the Video Playbook: (1 hour) What makes
special teams so special? Usually not much when it comes to youth football.
Coach T provides strategies for good coverage and return games in both
kick and punt situations. He also demonstrates how to punt and the keys
to kicking an extra point. Also included in this segment are sample youth
football plays, slowed down and analyzed for your teaching pleasure. Coach
T has a few trick plays up his sleeve as well.
